Those of you who follow me on Instagram or Twitter will know that with these last few weeks has come a change. I am blonde. And that, my friends, is something I never thought I’d be. So far I must say I’m very much liking the change (it kind of happened by accident), but it’s still a bit of a shock whenever I brush my teeth in the morning or catch my reflection in a shop window. I’m very much enjoying my time as a pastel princess; the blatantly artificial colours in my hair (lavender and apricot) are a far cry from anything I’ve sported before. However, I have run into a few problems I wasn’t expecting… none of my make-up seems to look right.
Now, I have a pretty large cosmetics collection, there’s no doubt about that. Which is why I never thought changing my hair colour would be an issue. However, it’s surprising the amount of products that suited me as a redhead which aren’t quite on the mark now that I’m a lot fairer. I’ve been in make-up no man’s land for weeks, just sort of “making do”, wearing a similar mix of products each day. I’ve been keeping my eyes fairly minimal and focusing instead of candy coloured lips and cheeks, but it was all getting a bit boring… so today I whacked out the blue eyeliner. Why not, eh?
A new acquisition for me of late is Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Gobi. Having short, blonde locks is high maintenance. Minimal effort is really not going to cut it for me. The natural redness in my skin really needs to be completely vanquished these days, so a more yellow based foundation was needed. A lot of drugstore foundations are more pinky-toned in their lighter shades so I’m struggling to wear Rimmel Wake Me Up and Revlon Nearly Naked the way I used to. The formula of Nars Sheer Glow is anything but sheer, I’d say a medium coverage that’s buildable. The yellow in Gobi really helps to cover the rosacea on the lower part of my cheeks and around my nose. Up the Amp by Mac is one of the only lipsticks in my collection that I find matches me better now I have lighter hair, along with Betty Bright from the Archie’s Girls collection and Snob both by Mac too.
These cream blushes by No7 are one of my favourite new discoveries and are amazingly creamy and pigmented for their price (£8). I bought this one, Romantic, with one of my Boots £3 off vouchers which made it even more of a bargain. Finally, I guess the star of the show in this look is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick in 005 Tempting Turquoise. I like a pop of colour on the lower lash line and and this stayed put without smudging literally all day at the office and well into after-work drinks at my local too. Well worth the money. I picked up 006 Paranoid Purple too so will be trying that out later this week.
