I’m a big fan of a the cream eyeshadow. Big fan. As most of you probably know already I’m big into the creamy thing because of my skin type (dry). I find that I wear cream eyeshadow more or less everyday. Barely ever on it’s own, but usually as a base for other shadows like colours from my Mac palette or my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette. I have 6 cream shadows in total from 3 brands and all 6 I use regularly however I do like some way more than others. As you can see above, I tend to label them on the lids so I know which is which. I thought I’d round them up for you guys and you can give me any feedback or recommendations for new ones to try in the comments :)

Bottom L-R: Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows in Pre-Nup, Flatter Me and Recess
The Benefit Creaseless Cream Eye Shadows were my introduction into the world of cream eyeshadow, and maybe even eyeshadow in general. I started with Sippin’ n Dippin’, a gorgeous peachy gold colour with lots of shimmer that I was recommended to me by an MUA on my first trip to NYC because “it looks awesome on redheads”. I remember being absolutely crazy about it for the first few months, more or less using it every day. The consistency of the Benefit shadow is quite thick and creamy so they can easily be worn alone or as a base. On me they really didn’t crease at all. I found that after a few uses each one dries out a little and becomes a little harder (see how they have shrunk away from the sides) but if you apply them with your fingers, the heat soon softens them.
After Sippin’ n Dippin’ my favourite is Pre-Nup (bottom left) which is a gorgeous base to start with for a night out look, but also a great colour to blend in the crease. Next favourite is Flatter Me (bottom right) which again is great for a darker, night time base. These shadows can also double as cream eyeliners, but this shade is the only one I use for that. I use this a lot in a smokey eye. Recess (top left) is my least favourite of the colours I have. I think this may have been a gift or a product I bought after a make-over with Benefit, because I literally never go for mattes. I do still use this one, but mainly for a sensible, neutral day time look if I don’t have much time.

These shadows are £14 and come in 11 shades. Buy them via Benefit or Boots.
Mac Paint Pot in Rubenesque vs Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Sippin’ n Dippin’ So you’re not mistaken in thinking that these products are pretty similar. I got Mac Rubenesque last Christmas as a gift. I’d asked for it, forgetting that I had a colour that was so similar already. I was desperate to try a Paint Pot to see what the formula is like, so I can’t say I regret the decision because I wear both equally. But I tend to use Rubenesque as my go-to base. It is, without doubt, the shadow I reach for most often. Generally the reviews I’ve seen comparing these two say that the Benefit one is better because it’s slightly more coral in tone and has a creamier consistency so it creases less. The Paint Pot is a harder consistency and so it’s more difficult to get pigmentation on application. I don’t have oily eyelids at all, so creasing is non existent with the Paint Pot too and it stays put all day.
The Benefit shadow is definitely thicker and much better as a stand along shimmery duo shade. I personally have trouble blending it sometimes. Overall, I really love them both but the Paint Pot is much thinner and sheerer in consistency, it’s easy to apply and personally it just suits me better. The price points are similar, £14.50 for the Paint Pot and £14 for the Benefit shadow, so it really just depends on your preference. Either way, this copper/peachy/gold duo shade that both products offer is absolutely gorgeous and exactly me in an eyeshadow form. I can’t wait to get my hands on more Mac Paint Pots.
If you’re a beauty blog reader, you’ll probably have read a hundred rave reviews of the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR. I’ll keep things simple. This product is almost a third of the price of the Mac and Benefit products but it’s just as good. In terms of staying power, I can’t vouch for the 24 hour promise, but it does last a good 8 hour working day, without a doubt. The consistency is similar to the Mac Paint Pot, it isn’t as pigmented as the Benefit shadow and to me it feels more oily, but the colour can be built up.
My one big negative about this product is that although I love shimmer from an eyeshadow, I find this shade (Eternal Gold – the only one I’ve tried) much too packed with glitter. That’s just my taste though, chunky glitter isn’t really my thing. I’m very excited to try other shades though as they don’t look quite so sparkly and this one has proved to be a great base for layer more shadows on top. It’s really easy to blend and gives a great wash of colour.
