Launch Event Snaps #NokiaTSN
Here are some snaps from the Nokia launch party I went to whilst in Hong Kong. To read details of the Nokia products that were launched click the link or scroll down for yesterday's post. It was tres glam! Blue cocktails and a buffet to die for!
Nokia looked after us brilliantly. The food was out of this world - 3 whole tables full of different dishes to chose, including a dessert table! The launch included a speech from the Nokia CEO and demos of all the phones. We were also serenaded by a saxophonist and an electric violinist, along with a DJ who played throughout the event. Small tables were set up for us to try the phones for ourselves, along with areas where us bloggers got to interview some Nokia spokespeople about the products to clear up any queries we had about the operating system or hardware.
And, well, they had me at blue cocktails really.

Try Something New!! #NokiaTSN
If you’ve been following me on Twitter recently, you’ll know that a few weeks ago I took part in #NokiaTSN. Nokia’s “Try Something New” campaign centred around the release of 3 new smartphones using a new operating system called Symbian Belle.
I was lucky enough to travel to Hong Kong with Nokia for the launch as part of a group of bloggers – why was I invited you ask? Well to be honest, I don’t know. Out of the group of us who travelled to Hong Kong though, the majority were tech bloggers, so I guess I was there to bring a little variety. As you know, I like clothes and make up – but I guess we all use a phone right? I suppose I’m your average lady smartphone user who’s down with the kids and likes a bit of social networking, so I thought I'd see what Nokia has to offer me.
So, currently Nokia offers the N8 – pictured below. I trialled this phone in March and didn’t get on with it too well. I found the operating system a bit clunky and felt it over complicated a lot of the functions that my Blackberry Bold seemed to handle easily. However, the one thing that truly did stand out about it was the camera. N8s come in a number of colours too which is pretty sweet.
I’m not going to bore you with the technical stuff; if you’re anything like me you won’t be remotely interested in or familiar with. But I’m going to tell you a little bit of info about the phones now, plus a brief post on each model to give you guys the specs in summary.
So ladies and gents, I introduce to you the Nokia 600, 700 and 701.
The Phones:
This phone is the smallest smartphone available from any phone company and, to be honest, makes the iPhone look like it’s eaten a few too many pies. It’s sleek and petite and comes in Cool Grey, Silver/White, Peacock Blue and Coral Red. From the pictures Peacock Blue looks absolutely to die for. The 700 is also Nokia’s most eco friendly phone – made from recycled plastics and metals, which went down pretty well with me. It's the phone I spent the most time with in Hong Kong and it was super cute and easy to use.
I’m going to do a post in a few weeks to tell you how I got on with this phone. But I have to tell you that at the moment I’m really liking it, which to be honest is a bit of a surprise (sorry Nokia!). I am a dedicated Blackberry user and also an Apple lover, which is obvs bound to cause conflict when buying my gadgets. However, I have to say that honestly, this phone is a real contender for me. It has elements similar to Sony Erikson and HTC and, in my view, has really brought Nokia up to date.
The 701 is larger than the 700 and the brightest phone in the collection. Not only that, it's actually the brightest smartphone available from anywhere! It has a 3.5 inch display for brilliant vibrant colour and sharp image display. It’s the most expensive of the new releases and you can definitely tell that by the way it looks. It also has a 8 Mega Pixel camera which is better than the other two phones. It comes in Steel Dark, Silver Light, Amethyst Violet and White. Check back to the blog for a full breakdown over the next few weeks.
The 600 is the loudest of Nokia’s latest offerings. It has a curved back and speakers which allow good music playback. It also has a fully functioning fm radio. This phone is the cheapest of the bunch and to be quite honest, looks it. It’s a great option if your budget doesn’t stretch too far and you use your phone to store your music collection and listen on the move. It comes in black, white, pink and lime. Again, for a closer look, click back to the blog over the coming weeks.
NFC:
The real selling point of these products is a new kind of technology called NFC. NFC allows Nokia users to share photos, videos and contacts, unlock gaming levels and access offers and information, all through tapping their phones against either another Nokia phone or against access points like posters.
I found it similar to the barcode scanning system, only way simplier. If I took a photo on my phone for example, and wanted to share it then and there with my friends, I would just open the photo and tap my phone to my friends to instantly transfer. It’s pretty snazzy. I honestly can’t explain to you how cool this is to see it in action, it’s a little bit like magic! As you can see from the photo above, the tapping system can be used to access offers and rewards. In the few posts coming up which cover the days after the launch I'll show you that it’s a pretty useful tool in a treasure hunt!
Along with the release of the phones there is also a new handfree headset that links to the phones using NFC for wireless use.
Check back tomorrow for pictures of the glamourous launch event and back in a day or so to see the mental adventure Nokia sent us on in the days following the event. "48 in Hong Kong" was an eye-opening experience!
The trip was completely mind blowing and allowed me to make loads of new friends and to explore a new place and I really couldn’t be more grateful. On top of all that, I got to learn a lot more about a subject area where usually, I just stick to what I know, which is extremely limited. What fun I had!
