Bigger, Prettier Bras for Less!

Posted by Lil In Fashion, High Street | 4 Comments »

When I did my Bravissimo and Marisota posts about fuller figure lingerie the biggest talking point in the feedback I received was price. It seems the main gripe us fuller chested ladies have is having to part with more money than those whose size is available in more mainstream stores. Not only that, but paying more for plainer or uglier bras is a real bummer.

Finding pretty bras for bigger breasts is possible, but they usually come at a price. In my post last week I mentioned that I'd discovered some value packs online. This sparked some discussion, so today I thought I'd focus the spotlight on JDWilliams who are another online womens clothing catalogue specialising in plus-size clothing in sizes 12-34. Yet again, the plus-size market has come up trumps with their lingerie department.

Value packs are available from just £18 for two bras, which for someone who's used to paying on average £28-40 per bra is pretty exciting news. Breasts can fluctuate in size from month to month so it's important to get measured regularly. Often we might be put off getting remeasured because we know it means spending more money, which - lets face it - we may not have, on new bras. That's why I think these value packs are a great purchase.
And if value packs aren't your thing, well, JDWilliams offer a lot more too, and for very reasonable prices:
L: Millarosa Underwired Bra in Pink Rose £22-26
R: O Lingerie Celine Bandeau Bra in Antique White £26

Together Underwired Midi Bra £38-£44
Plus size or otherwise, where do you buy your lingerie? How have your measuring experiences been? Are you enjoying the lingerie series on A Storm in a Teacup?

Marisota ♥

Posted by Lil In Fashion, High Street | 4 Comments »

When I tweeted about plus size lingerie last week, it turned up quite a lot of information. Since Bravissimo invited me down earlier in the year and I ended up with a bigger and slightly inconvenient bra size, buying underwear has been a somewhat challenging, expensive and confusing activity for me.

I've been searching for a place where I can see all the brands I've been recommended together in one place. Catalogue style websites really aren't the kind of place that usually appeals to me, but I've discovered they're a good place to compare and contrast the different bras on offer. There is a whole range of plus size womens clothing from Marisota as well as a big lingerie section.

At first, I wondered why I hadn't thought of a plus size website as somewhere to look for bigger bras before, but I guess it was because I had the idea in my head that everything on offer would be frumpy or dated - sort of limited to old lady and nursing bras.

I'm happy to say that I was wrong! Marisota offer all of the lingerie brands I was recommended by different readers: Freya, Curvy Kate, Triumph, Gossard, Figleaves, Panache, Fantasie and Wonderbra. They also sell the Gok Wan range of bras, which if you're anything like me you might get a bit excited by. I also managed to discover some new brands too, Millarosa in particular, which has a number of really gorgeous bras on offer.

I think my favourite part of the Marisota website is that the models are plus size. I like seeing the lingerie on a model, in the same way I like seeing clothes on a model, because you can see the way it sits when it's faced with real skin and curves. I like that the lingerie is on "normal size" ladies because they, although very beautiful, are more relatable to. It's easier to make the purchase, because you can more easily see yourself in it.

I also had a look around the rest of the lingerie section of the website, and noticed that Marisota have an excellent range of shapewear. Full body shape suits, control knickers and vests are all available and don't look entirely hideous and like something you have to fight with. Most of us have worn, or at least thought about wearing shapewear in the past, maybe for a wedding or a prom. Marisota have a number of brands including the whole Gok Wan shapewear range. I picked a few of my favourites, which you can see above along with the Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless bra which retails for £33-£35 on Marisota ^ :)

The bras I've featured range from around £26-£35, though the website does offer cheaper options, along with value packs. You'll know if you wear larger sizes that it can be very expensive, so twin packs of tshirt bras can be a great option. When I first got resized, I thought high-end bra shops and department stores were going to be my only option. Just a little bit of internet research found that there are plenty of options, and they don't have to be so ££ costly either.

Where do you go for your fuller figure lingerie? Which brands are your favourite?

Bank: An Outfit For Everyone?

Posted by Lil In Fashion, High Street | 5 Comments »

BANK is one of those stores that for one reason or another is not on my go to list. Kind of like Motel, I've classed it repeatedly as one of those places in which a treasure can be found, but I mainly regard it as a place for girls with bangin bodies to get their Saturday night party frock. Not really considering myself as one of those girls, it's never been at the top of my list for places to look.

That having been said I have, more than once, found myself drifting into BANK somewhat late in the day, an anxious look on my face and my friend's birthday party/uni night out edging closer. More than once has BANK been my saviour.

So with that in mind, I thought I'd style three outfits from the dresses, bags, shoes and jewellery at BANK. I went for three quite different looks in the end. I like each outfit a lot, but would probably jump to the first animal print inspired ensemble because out of all of them, that's more my style. I'm loving a print these days. The slit is a little risque for daytimes i guess so I'd get round that by just whacking a black/brown/grey vest top underneath. I also love the shoes and bag in that outfit.

Over all though, I'd say this beautiful evening dress is my favourite piece on the website. I styled it with a quilted shoulder bag and pumps and - to quote the eloquence of SATC's Antony - CHANELLO!! A gorgeous dress to bring out the fairy princess in anyone.

While I was browsing I was quite taken with their couture inspired handbags - hello Alexander McQueen at affordable prices. I've been on a bit of a mish recently to get my hands on some lookylikeys - as you'll see in my upcoming Hong Kong post where I'll show you the delights I picked up while I was there. BANK also stock popular brands like Lipsy, Rare and Max C. All the items you see in these outfits were found on the BANK website. I think I'll be checking it a little bit more often from now on.

Which shop is your High Street saviour? Have you ever shopped at BANK?
