Since I saw Carrie and Fiona in Swedish Hasbeens last summer, I’ve simply needed a pair for my shoe collection. They’re cute, childish and twee, all of which are traits that suit me down to the ground. While some might turn their nose up at the clog-like quality of the brand’s trademark shoe, I’ve always been a sucker for a wooden heel and the heavy sole and bright leather of the “Peep Toe Super High” have me salivating at the thought of summer.
I’ve always been one step ahead when it comes to Scandi-cool, it has to be said. I’ve been obsessed with most things Swedish since my early teens and in 2009 found myself watching Melodifestivalen (the Swedish precursor to the Eurovision where acts compete to be the Swedish representative) live from a town hall in Marylebone surrounded by Swedes, eating Daim having no idea what anyone was saying (that night, in all its strangeness, still stands as one of the best nights of my life). So, long story short, my point is that it’s no wonder I like Swedish shoes. Right? Right.
You can pick up Swedish Hasbeen shoes at Spartoo, but sadly they are a little pricey. The ones pictured above range from £128 to £185, but the way I’ve got it in my head, they’re the perfect sandals to go with practically every British Summertime outfit I’ve got planned. So I’m thinking I may just have to splash out. My only worry is that they might be uncomfortable and with no option to try them on, it’s a little daunting to commit. Having said that, Spartoo do have free returns! Have any of you used that service?
What do you think of Swedish Hasbeens: pretty and prim or school shoe ugly? Do you own any? What shoes are you looking forwarded to wearing this summer?
