So the past week has been spent doing a number of out of the ordinary and lovely occurrences. I worked as usual from Monday – Wednesday and popped off on Wednesday night to stay in Surrey for my graduation.
Earlier in the week, Tuesday evening to be precise, I was lucky enough to meet up with Hayley Selina and Leah for a drink after work. It was interesting to talk about the ups and downs of blogging and all it encompasses. It was so nice to speak to people who understand what you’re talking about, a bit, at least. That being said, there was a lot of inane rambling, and not just from the drunk woman who accosted us and made some perhaps profound (?) comments about children in Somalia, but I was thinking mainly from me. Really nice to see blogging kind of mixing with the place I grew up for the first time. Blogging to me has become a sort of London thing, and I’m glad that’s changing – what with my move up North edging towards me too.
I think what I’ve come to realize recently, is that I’ve maybe fallen a little bit out of love with blogging. I go through months when I’m enthusiastic, spend every spare minute catching up and commenting, but with a lack of Wi-fi in my flat, and with maybe an enthusiasm lying somewhere other than with the world of what I can pick up for the New Look sale, my dedication is beginning to fail.
I’m probably going to start taking A Storm in a Teacup in a different direction. I want to keep writing the posts I care about – there was a post about a month ago on QVC which I really enjoyed writing for example – but lose the ones I’m not so keen on. In their place, I want to write book reviews, commentary on events which are happening in the world around us, and exercising my brain a little more.
This is by no means any disrespect to dedicated fashion bloggers – I wish I had the time and energy to put all the effort in, and I LOVE reading them, but I’ve got an interesting project I’m working on and I’d like to tie that in to what I post, maybe, a bit more. So watch out for some changes, and you know, sorry if things are a bit sparse for a while.
So, moving on – my graduation. I wasn’t much looking forward to it. I’m a bit disgruntled about narrowly missing out on the First I wanted, and I tend to get a bit nervous about generally being in front of people. But in the end it was ok, and I was really surprised at what a lovely time I had. It was great to see all my friends, as well as talk to old tutors. It’s a great comfort to have it affirmed, time and time again, that your University is there for you, and will continue to be, even as a Graduate.
I got back to Bristol on Friday night and was sadly stuck down with some sort of evil bug. I’ve been lying on the sofa reading Caitlin Moran’s “How to Be a Woman” and trying to work out why most younger women are ashamed to call themselves Feminists. A lot of you may have noticed – especially if you follow me on Twitter – that this is a subject I care a lot about, and I intend to tie that into my blog at some point.
A full review on that book will come within the next few posts.
