Outfit 18/05/11: Therapy

Earlier this week I was reading a post by Maria in which she asked What clothes make you smile?

This got me to thinking. I've alluded before to the fact that 2011 has been bumpy for me - brilliant, amazing ups, but what appear, at times, to be almost limitless lows - I've found that the best days I've had are the ones where I've made the effort to get up and put full make up on, and to pick out an outfit which isn't just something plain and boring I can fade into the background in. I've found that by injecting fun into my clothes, my attitude tends to improve!

I would say that the one word I would use to sum up my wardrobe at it's best would be "playful". I like colour and pattern, and being childish with pieces. This is why from very early on, as some of you may recall, playsuits were a big hit for me. Freedom to romp around like a kid in a soft play area, prints galore, and usually a cute nipped in waist.

In the photo at the top of this post, I am wearing my favourite piece of clothing I own. The photo is ages old (my hair is so long!) but I remember this being a particularly bad day, so I chose to put this on. When teamed with a colourful cardi, a beaten up pair of converse, a bit of Viva Glam Cyndi, and a big stick of candy floss, fun is simply impossible to ignore!

My point is: it fits, it suits me and it makes me feel good... but sort of like a clown too! What can beat that!?

What I'm getting at, is that fashion should, and does, make you feel better. This sentiment is summed up perfectly in this Miss Dior advert:

So, taking inspiration from Maria, which clothes make you happy? Do you think your clothes have the power to change your mood? Can you think of a time where an outfit made your day or night?

You look beautiful! I definitely think clothes can change my mood. I'm all about comfort when I dress. I love jeans because they make me feel so secure and comfortable. I wear tons of flats too. I just know that somedays i'll wake up and want to feel extra "playful" or "girly" and i'll put on a skirt, and some heels ...and by the end of the day, i feel so out of my comfort zone and I know its not me at all so I wont be as happy/chipper as I was in the morning. Great blog by the way, just found it. Hope you're having a wonderful day xo

Agreed, this sounds so shallow but before a night out I always get ready in my pjs, like sit and do my make up etc, and moan about how bad my roots are/cheap my makeup looks blah blah blah. But as soon as I add the usual bodycon skirtbaggytopcombo I feel great again. I love your playsuit by the way, where's it from?xx

The playsuit is so cute. There's nothing like a "fun" item of clothing to cheer you up!

Such a lovely post lil. I def hink that certain clothes have the power to change your mood. Different outfits I wear always make me feel a certain way. I love my go to comfort clothes which make me feel happy and safe. But likewise if a certain item of clothing reminds me of a time or person when I was upset... chances are I'll subconciously end up not wearing that piece for a long time xx

HERE ENSUES A BLOG COMMENTING TSUNAMI. Hope you're prepared to read some drivel.Lovely post, agreed with the comments above! (And I love Maria, all of her posts make me smile). My favourite sort of outfit is snug on the bottom half (think slimfit skirt/shorts & tights) and baggy upper half (vintage jumpers, sheer oversized shirts etc). There's something a little sexy about that kind of style and I'm not saying I'm a hot piece of ass but it makes me feel marginally more confident! ♥ Claire @ Jazzpad
