Outfit 17/02/11

When on Oxford Street yesterday for my Bravissimo fitting I decided a wednesday afternoon would be as good a time as any to brave the Oxford Street Primark. Walking in, I was greeted by an array of 50s style dresses. I absolutely hate the term "Prom Dresses" so I'm not going to use that, but there was quite a selection of full skirted, sweetheart necked treasures up for grabs. So I settled on one.

The main reason I liked this is the print on the top half. Its white, with little doodles in black, washed over with some pinks, greens and browns. I'm a big fan of prints so it hooked me instantly. The dress was £15, which is fairly standard for Primark. Obviously, quality isn't great, the skirt sort of resembles crepe paper and wrinkles easily and feels cheap, but hey! if I wanted expensive and classy then I wouldn't be shopping in Primark now, would I? Ha. So I'm pretty happy. It came with the belt too, which I believe can be detached. I teamed this with all tan accessories, to match the belt. My wooden cloggettes looked cute with little white ankle socks with black polkadots from Topshop.
I have to admit before I go any further, I didn't actually wear this outfit out. Due to what I've been suffering with lately, I've been struggling with motivation and energy, so I've tended to be a bit more sheepish with my clothing recently, hence the lack of outfit posts, and I didn't feel that a little me time at the 3.15 showing of Black Swan in Richmond warranted heels and a full skirted ensemble. Plus, the weather wasn't really permitting! Bare legs and arms aren't really the way forward in South West London currently. But I'm happy to have this little outfit up my sleeve for another occasion. While I was searching for things to layer this dress with, I hit upon a problem. I don't really have a cardigan which i deem appropriate. This is not really a problem I usually run into, so I was perplexed. I decided in the end, to try layering it with my newish Topshop Cobweb Top (as seen in this post), and rather like the results!

I thought this was nice, as tying it around the waist makes sure you don't obscure the shape of the dress or the belt, and the pattern and shape of the top part of the dress is still visible through the fabric, whilst adding a layer of warmth. I'd layer it again with a leather jacket and a silk headscarf.

So today I decided to finally pull myself out of bed around 2pm and throw on some clothes. I'd decided to take the day off uni anyhow, because I wasn't feeling too great and didn't have much personal interest in today's class on book agents, so I decided to wander to Richmond too and do what I tend to when I feel the need to indulge myself and relax - I went to the cinema and bought some cheese, of course!

I saw the Black Swan which I had been meaning to see for ages, but was with Matt in Leeds when the girls I live with went to see it. I think maybe it's because there had been so much hype, and lots of people said they were a little disappointed, that I wasn't expecting much. Man, was I surprised! It completely blew me away. Although I thought some of the scenes were a bit sick (peeling skin off your fingers anyone?) I generally really enjoyed it and could not believe Natalie Portman's performance and the sheer sex appeal of Mila Kunis - hubba hubba!!

After the film I wandered to Waitrose to check if they had the cheese in stock that I had read about in this Month's Waitrose Kitchen. It's called Raging Bull and I've been searching for it in various branches for a week or so and can never find it! Some of you might know that I'm a bit of a foodie, and I've set myself a challenge. Everytime I buy cheese from now on (which will be often, because I adore cheese) I'm going to try a new kind. No more bog standard cheddar or packaged brie for I! No, i'm going to try the whole of the cheese counter. I've been thinking for a while that I may start a food blog for my adventures into gastromony, as I'm not sure many of you will be interested in my thoughts on various smoked hams etc. So, I may begin by recording my cheesy challenge. If so, I'll let anyone who's interested know the URL.

Things I love ATM: The excitement surrounding LFW - bring me your posts girlies! Tulips in my bedroom, Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, caramelised onions, Criminal Minds, detective novels and Adele's album 21.

i went to see black swan as well, and YES THE SCENE WITH THE FINGER was GROSS and the scene where she breaks her mom's fingers and bla blah (SPOILER!)however, i found it much better than the requiem for a dream which is only worth for the soundtrackmaybe it's because of Vincent Cassel aaaaaah
