Hello all.
Most of you, if you have been reading for a while, will probably be aware that I have been a naughty girl and have been rather scant with the posting since I returned from my trip to the USA at the beginning of September. There are a number of reasons for this - holiday, followed by moving back up to London for uni, followed by the piling on of work and getting lost under a mountain of Early American Literature. None of these though, I'm sure you'll agree, provide an excuse.
The point of this scathing self-criticism is to bring up the fact that I am yet to show you my American Haul (there's a fair bit), and in that collection comes Sephora Matte Finish Nail Polish in Metro Chic. So, in turn, here comes my Nail of the Day!

Here are two pictures of my nails last night, right after the application. The first is without light, the second with light. Take a looksie...

Number one thing I'd like to say is that I LOVE SEPHORA (you can find her - I like to refer to the shop as a mythical "her" for some reason, online here). Whenever I'm in the states I can spend hours just roving up and down the aisles, looking at all the lovely brands, along with the Sephora products and all the little accessories they have to make one's life much prettier. I have to say I don't think anyone can be in love with a shop as much as I am in love with little Sephora.
I picked up many a product when I was stateside this August/September, and Metro Chic was actually the only Sephora branded product of those many. I was very excited to get my hands on it as I'd heard a lot about it, chiefly from Lollipop26. You guys have probably also heard a lot about it already - the lovely Sian from Style Is The Sixth Sense did a post on it a few days ago, see it here.
So, my thoughts:
♥ The colour - be still my beating heart! The perfect, sophisticated brownish, greyish, purpleish. Hard to define but OHSOCHIC. I find I have to apply a good 3 coats to achieve the shade that I set out for (the exact way it appears in the bottle), and even after those three coats it can appear a little translucent under the light.
♥ The application process - as I said, I had to apply multiple coats. However, the coats go on relatively smoothly and its not too hard to apply. It isn't however, as easy to apply as my beloved Barry M polishes, or my favourite - the Rimmel I Heart Lasting Finish polishes, but no complaints. Its dries quite quickly and I found the whole process fairly speedy.
♥ Wear & tear - a day on, and there are chips. This saddens me greatly. Obviously, a top coat isn't really an option with a matte finish so this is likely to happen, but I think it is a little bit annoying how quickly my nail job has deteriorated. Due to the colour, the chips hardly go unnoticed and my nails do look rather shoddy.
♥ Overall - I am so glad I bought this polish. I love love love the colour and have yet to find a dupe for it in the UK (matte finish or otherwise). I love the matte finish - I like the change and think my nails look classy and different. I have had a few compliments already and its all good. I'd give the polish a 7/10 - just a shame about the longevity factor.
Hope this was helpful! How do you guys like matte finishes? What are your favourites and have you heard good things about other brands?
I have seen that Nails Inc have brought out a black matte polish, which was advertised in their latest mail-out. Will any of you be trying this? I think it might be a bit costly at £10.50 - have to keep my eyes peeled for a dupe!
PS: Blog awards coming in the next few posts - thanks girls for giving me a few!
